Your Eye Health is Our #1 Concern
A comprehensive eye examination is about much more than simply whether or not you need corrective lenses. It is about the current and future health of your eyes.
A comprehensive eye exam goes beyond the Snellen visual acuity chart usually associated with a trip to the eye doctor to include a thorough evaluation of total ocular wellness. It can prevent the onset of certain diseases of the eye and, when necessary, identify early signs of it to allow treatment to halt progression.
Along with ensuring you see more clearly, a King & Rose eye exam is aimed at preventing and identifying common — and many not so common — diseases of the eye, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. While some eyes conditions solely affect the eyes, others have a direct correlation to your overall health.
Many ocular symptoms signal more serious systemic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and muscular sclerosis.
Conversely, certain health conditions, like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmunity can directly affect vision and eye health.
It is only by including regular comprehensive eye exams as part of your wellness plan that you can have an accurate picture of your overall health.
Maintaining & Monitoring Eye Health At Every Age
At every age, a comprehensive eye exam can improve health and quality of life.
For our youngest patients, blurred vision or poor eye coordination can dramatically affect learning and make reading less fun. Lack of coordination between the eyes and underdeveloped eye muscles (lazy eye) can be detected as early as six months old, and treatments to strengthen and retrain the eyes can start. If issues like this arise after muscles have been irreparably damaged, surgery might be the only option.
The American Optometric Association (AOA) suggests that children should have eye exams to check their development when they are six months old and again at three years old. After that, they should have exams whenever they start school, which is usually around five or six years old. After that, based on previous exams, your King & Rose optometric team will recommend an appropriate follow-up schedule.
Age, environment, health, and lifestyle can all cause changes to vision over time. Regular comprehensive eye exams allow doctors to track these changes and address potential cause and effect.
